Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA)

What is an Equality Impact Assessment (EQIA)?

It is a means of showing how the Integrated Joint Board (IJB) has given due regard to the Equality Act 2010 when writing new policies, creating new services, or making changes to existing services.

Why do we do it?

The Equality Act 2010 includes instruction for legal compliance and it helps us meet our public sector equality duty to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations.  The impact assessment considers the needs of people with protected characteristics. In addition, our Equality Impact Assessments meet our duty, known as the Fairer Scotland Duty, to consider how to reduce inequalities caused by socio-economic disadvantage when making strategic decisions.

Our IJB has adopted the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde equality impact assessment tool.
