Renfrewshire Anti Stigma Alliance (RASA)

RASA is an alliance of statutory, voluntary and community groups who have come together to influence and strengthen community action by empowering communities to end mental health stigma and discrimination, and promote community health and wellbeing.

RASA want to ensure that people in our local communities are connected to the things that will keep them healthy. All partners offer unique services and it is this holistic approach and collective strength that helps us to facilitate and work together to improve attitudes and create a fairer and more equal society.

RASA's mission is simple: tackle mental health stigma and discrimination in Renfrewshire

•      Empower people with lived experience.

•      Influence and strengthen community action to end mental health stigma and discrimination in Renfrewshire.

•      Promote community health and wellbeing and connect communities, groups and individuals to local resources.

RASA also created and published a booklet of poems in recognition of the shared wisdom, resilience, creativity and kindness that exists within our communities.

Walk a Mile

RASA has encouraged people to walk a mile to address stigma, Walk a Mile brings people together to speak about mental health and 'walk a mile in each other's shoes'.

Walk a mile

Spread a Little Kindness Campaign

To mark Mental Health Awareness week 10-16 May 2021, RASA will be sharing some uplifting pictures and quotes via Renfrewshire HSCP's social media channels to support the mental health benefits of connecting with nature in our local community.

Priorities going forward

RASA hopes to achieve a change in culture and attitudes to mental ill health including the reduction of stigma and discrimination in Renfrewshire and will continue to increase awareness of the group, their shared vision and identity and what the partnership can offer. Engagement with partners is underway to look at social media campaigns for 2021 and planning is also being looked at for the group to organise a Xmas walk a mile event in December 2021 if it is safe to do so.

5 Steps to Mental Wellbeing

  • Connect.  Connect with the people around you: your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing these relationships

  • Be active.  You don't have to go to the gym. Take a walk, go cycling or play a game of football. Find the activity that you enjoy and make it a part of your life.

  • Keep learning.  Learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence. So why not sign up for that cooking course, start learning to play a musical instrument, or figure out how to fix your bike.

  • Give to others. Even the smallest act can count, whether it's a smile, a thank you or a kind word. Larger acts, such as volunteering at your local community centre, can improve your mental wellbeing and help you build new social networks.

  • Take Notice. Be more aware of the present moment, including your feelings and thoughts, your body and the world around you. Some people call this awareness "mindfulness", and it can positively change the way you feel about life and how you approach challenges.
