Work to improve the existing health centre site in Bishopton will begin on Monday 28 February.

The programme will create additional accommodation space for the centre and will develop enhancements to general consultation rooms, clinical rooms for both the GP practice and community-based health and social care services.

The contractors will establish a site office from Monday 21 February and will undertake the necessary preparatory work during that week. Improvements will then be made over two phases, to ensure the health centre and its services remain operational with minimal disruption to the public. The first phase will take approximately seven weeks to complete and will be followed immediately by phase two, estimated to take nine weeks.

This work has been commissioned as part of the wider agreement to improve the delivery of health and social care services in Bishopton, which considered the increasing population from new developments, particularly at Dargavel Village.

Separately, work is progressing to take forward a proposal to develop a new-build satellite, which will provide an additional facility within the Dargavel Village development to address the current and projected requirements. Further details on this aspect of the development are to be announced in due course.

Partners including Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, Renfrewshire Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are working together to progress the plans.

A spokesperson for Renfrewshire HSCP said: "Together, these two important developments will allow us to make best use of the primary care estate within the Bishopton area. They will create additional capacity in the centre of the new Dargavel Village development, therefore serving each of these communities in a local setting. It also enables a clear way forward for how we can plan the best health and social care services that meet community needs."
