Naloxone and Overdose Awareness Training
Naloxone is a life-saving medication that temporarily reverses the effects of opiate drugs. Opiates are a class of drug that includes heroin, methadone and dihydrocodeine.
In a potentially fatal opiate overdose, naloxone can buy time until an ambulance arrives. Naloxone has no intoxicating effect or dependence potential. In a similar manner to Adrenaline, naloxone may be legally administered by anyone to anyone for the intended purpose of saving a life.
Find out how naloxone works by watching the short video clip from Scottish Drugs Forum:
Anyone who might witness an opiate overdose. If you, or someone you know takes drugs, or if there is a chance you could witness opiate overdose, carry naloxone.
Naloxone is free and available to anyone over the age of 16. Some basic training will be provided to ensure you have the information you need to respond to an opiate overdose. This can take as little as 10 minutes
