If you currently live in your own home but need additional support with your day-to-day living needs, there are a number of options available to you.
These include:
- sheltered housing (council or independent/private)
- residential care home (council or independent/private)
- nursing care home (independent/private).
If we think a care home is the best option, we'll help you to arrange one that is right for you and we'll consider whether you are eligible for assistance with paying for housing costs. But before this is arranged, we'll need to carry out an assessment of your needs to help you to make the best choice for your future.
Any payments towards a care home place can only be made from, or backdated to, the date an assessment is completed. It's important you ask for an assessment before deciding on moving to a care home.
Care costs are related to your individual financial circumstances and we'll be able to give you more detailed information during your assessment. Our Social Care and Health staff will make every effort to explain to you what's involved, and help you through the financial aspects of moving from your own home.
