Care Homes

Care Homes provide support to people who are assessed as being unable to continue living independently within their own home

The vision of Renfrewshire HSCP is for Renfrewshire to be a caring place where people are treated as individuals and are supported to live well.

The aspiration of the HSCP is to support people to live safely and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, with appropriate supports made available to meet their assessed needs.  It is important that people access the right care at the right time and place, and are empowered to shape their support at every stage of life.

Access to a care home placement is subject to an assessment that identifies a level of risk that prevents people from being supported to live in their own home.

Following an assessment that determines a care home placement is necessary to meet a person's assessed needs, assistance can be provided to identify a suitable care home.  Assistance can also be provided with the process of seeking financial support the person may be eligible for, such as free personal care or nursing care.

There are different types of care homes available:

  • residential care homes have trained care staff who provide 24-hour care
    • residential care homes are able to support residents who do not require the input of a registered nurse on a regular basis
    • residents are supported by trained care staff who seek input from Advanced Nurse Practitioners where clinical support is required.
    • staff provide care and support to meet resident's personal care and social care needs
    • residents are supported to maximise opportunities within the care homes and their local communities, supported by activities coordinators
    • there are currently 2 local authority residential care homes in Renfrewshire who are able to consider providing placements - these are Hunterhill Care Home and Renfrew Care Home

  • nursing care homes have trained care and nursing staff who provide 24 hour care
    • nursing care homes are able to support residents who require the input of a registered nurse on a regular basis
    • residents are supported by care and nursing staff as appropriate
    • staff provide care and support to meet resident's personal care and social care needs

    • there several private sector nursing care homes in Renfrewshire

All care homes are registered with the Care Inspectorate, which is a scrutiny body supporting improvement by looking at the quality of care in Scotland to ensure it meets high standards. Further information, including reports and quality framework evaluations can be found at www.careinspectorate.com
